Getting Liquidity Right Starts Behind the Scenes

Let’s talk liquidity. Not in theory, but in timing gaps, missed signals, and the operational drag that builds when finance gets stuck reacting. It’s rarely about one system or one person—it’s about how everything fits together. That’s what Matt Lescault, CEO of TydeCo™, sees most often. He works with [...]

Need Capital? Here’s How Law Firms Should Weigh Their Financing Options

In the first year of practice, most sole practitioners face what’s often called the lean period. Cash flow is inconsistent, but bills still need to be paid. Salaries, operational costs, and legal insurance don’t wait. For growing firms, it’s no easier. The costs of building new teams, adopting new technology, or opening another office add up quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions

We typically work alongside internal or external bookkeepers. Our role focuses on structure, review, and control. We make sure transactions are posted correctly, accounts are reconciled, and reporting reflects your operations accurately. We bring an extra layer of oversight and guidance to make the process consistent.
We use your existing tech stack wherever possible. That includes accounting software like QuickBooks or Intacct, tools like Ramp or BILL for approvals and payments, and shared folders for close documentation. We also help improve how those tools are used and maintained as part of our oversight.
Both options are available. Some clients bring us in to support cleanup and build structure, then transition to internal staff. Others retain our team for longer-term oversight. We can scale our involvement to match your team size and internal capacity.
We begin with access to your accounting system and existing close documentation, if available. From there, we map your current process, review historical data, and build a plan. We will ask questions about roles, reporting needs, and historical issues so we can start improving accuracy and structure right away.

Controllers provide structure and discipline to your financial systems, from recons and close to reporting and internal controls. For instance, we create a visible close checklist with owners and dates. This clarifies ownership of responsibilities and ensures close is always completed on time.

Your controller provides the following fixes:

  • Standardized workpapers and naming configurations. This helps reviewers (anyone with authorization, really) find evidence quickly and easily.
  • Sets a weekly rhythm for reconciliations, including cash, cards, AP, and AR.
  • The approvals process is consistent across entities. This ensures policies are applied consistently with hardly any breaks.
  • Compliance is built in so records (audit prep, approval logs) are accurate, accessible, and supported by evidence.
  • Variance notes provide practical information that can be used to build learning. Clarity should ensure repeat work and recurring errors are eliminated.

Management is an important part of a controller’s job, but they always work with your teams, not dispensing advice from the sky.

One of a controller’s primary roles is to improve audit readiness no matter what time of the month (or year). To achieve this, they must:

  • Tie subledgers to the general ledger with a clear mapped route to improve workflow and lessen rework requirements.
  • Evidence is always tied to the task. It’s easily accessible and comes with context, as opposed to screenshots that you need to hunt out.
  • Save time and effort by clearly defining thresholds for investigation. Focus can be better spent elsewhere.
  • Intercompany balances and eliminations are tracked the same way each period. Consistency is key to accuracy, efficiency, and increased productivity.

Controllers provide assurance that the system supports your financial functions. This is evidenced by the clear narrative and stable reporting structures that help build an accurate audit trail. This is not a top-down approach. We work with your team to ensure solutions fit your business’s needs.
